Versace revealed the latest Spring/Summer 21 collection with a live-streamed show from VERSACEPOLIS the lost under-sea city during Milan Fashion Week with the Versace employees audience.
”I wanted to create something disruptive, something that could be in tune with what has changed inside all of us. To me that meant dreaming of a new world. Aworld made of popping colors and fantastic creatures and a world in which we can all coexist peacefully” Donatella Versace
The show was in a sand-covered, dimly-lit space lined with broken-down Roman pillars, it is an underwater kingdom populated by strong and confident men and women”. “ruled by Medusa”.
The models looked like glitzy sea creatures with damp hair and dewy skin, they looked as if they had just walked out from the sea: Joan Smalls, Jill Kortleve, Irina Shayk, Adut Akech, and Anna Ewers and others.
Through this collection, Donatella offered the escapist maritime vision for Spring 2021, and she both paid homage to her late brother and brought back the Trésor de la Mer print by Gianni Versace in the ’90s.
The collection consisted of Donatella Versace’s “hidden treasures” as under-the-sea themes came in bold, graphic prints. The shells and starfish motifs cropped up in a number of ways.
There were starfish prints and wave-like flounce-hem mini skirts and dresses that looked like shells, sporty wetsuit-inspired separates, and neon hues reminiscent of colorful coral reefs.
Little Mermaid inspired crystal-encrustedbras and blinged-out embellishments on classic black blazers references to Gianni Versace’s Spring/Summer 1992 collection.
